As of Friday, January 10, 2025, Fort Frye Local Schools have been closed five school days due to inclement weather. The current school calendar allots five school closing days due to inclement weather and/or other emergencies that do not have to be made-up by staff and students.  However, school closing day #6 and thereafter will be made-up to account for student learning.  Our district will utilize remote learning to make-up these days, which has been the procedure for several years.

Guidelines for Remote Learning Make-Up Days:

*Teachers are available to virtually interact with students from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students and parents/guardians can email teachers.  Some teachers may communicate to their students by a different means of communication as well.  Please talk to your child BEFORE school closing day #6 to make sure he/she understands how to access materials.

*The amount of work will be age-level appropriate.  Primary students (K-2) should not spend more than 90 minutes completing remote learning for one day of remote learning; grades 3-5 not more than 2 hours, grades 6-8 not more than 3 hours, and high school not more than 4 hours.  These times may vary by student depending on his/her skill level and attentiveness.  It is possible students will finish in less time.

*For the most part, no new learning is assigned, except for more advanced courses like College Credit Plus and/or where there is a recorded video of the teacher instructing an entire lesson.

*Remote learning assignments can be taken for a grade.

*Completion of remote learning assignments will be taken for attendance credit.  If a student does not complete the remote learning assignments for a given day, the attendance for that day will be marked absent for the course and/or the whole day depending on the grade level.

*Google Classroom will be the virtual platform utilized and all materials and links are provided within Google Classroom as age-appropriate.  Teachers have demonstrated to their students in advance where remote learning assignments can be accessed.  Talk to your child in advance of remote learning to make sure he/she understands the teacher plan.  If there are questions, please contact the classroom teacher.

*Students who do not have access to internet can request hard copies of materials if necessary.

*Assignments are due 7 calendar days from the day of the school closing or when materials were made available to studentsPlease note that if the first remote learning day occurs before students have been able to return from the Christmas Break, we will extend the due date to 10 calendars for this set of assignments.  We understand that the consecutive school closing days for inclement weather leading into the first remote learning day creates a challenge in starting the first remote learning day.  We will work together to make this success.

*Teachers will remind families and students of pending due dates for these remote learning assignments.

Again, if you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher(s).

Thank you for helping make remote learning a success!
