The Fort Frye FFA chapter traveled to Denver, Colorado January 12th-17th 2024 on an Agricultural Awareness Trip. Eleven students had many new experiences from flying for the first time, to seeing the Rocky Mountains. During the trip students learned more about agriculture and gained leadership skills. During their time in Colorado they went on many educational tours such as learning about the production of barley and hops for brewing. Another favorite tour was at the Colorado Serum Company. Students learned about all of the different factors that go into making vaccines and medications that they ship to 6 out of the 7 continents. FFA chapter president Kail Bauerbach stated “My favorite part of the trip was touring the Five Rivers Cattle Feedlot  which included walking and driving around the feedlot to get a better understanding of what it takes to put food on the table.” During the tour students also learned about the history of Five Rivers which is one of the biggest cattle feedlot companies in the world. At the one site we toured there was 100,000 head of cattle! The main attraction of the tour was the National Western Stock Show. This event showcases unique livestock breeds from around the Western United States and beyond as well as production cattle. Other places visited included a wholesale florist company and Red Rocks Amphitheater. During the trip they also got the chance to just have fun with their friends and did activities such as ice skating and playing card games. Many students said that their favorite part of the trip was creating bonds and memories with fellow students and teachers that they will never forget. Thank you to our Fort Frye community who  helped to support students to attend this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
