Today, Fort Frye High School students competed at the first annual Ohio Valley Robotics and Drones Competition hosted by Belpre High School. Fifty students from Fort Frye, Belpre, Warren High School, Warren Middle School, Caldwell competed in allied Robotics teams meaning that schools were paired with students from other schools to work together to win the competition. Fort Frye's Dominic Stone and his Belpre Team 1 allies won the Championship in the Robotics Competition! Tanner Boswell and his Belpre Team 6 allies won runner-up in the Robotics Championship. Next, in the Drones single team competition, Levi McConnell and Connor Schnell won the Drones Championship! Additionally, Conner Dyar and Elliot Gilcrist won runner-up in the Drones Championship. Fort Frye Drones swept the field as the last three rounds were all Fort Frye pilots and co-pilots. Several generous donors (Micro Machine Works, Ascent, Beverly Lions Club and some wishing to remain anonymous) sponsored this event with scholarship money and these winners will receive a grand total of $510. Appalachian Ohio Manufacturing Coalition, Wings, Etc. of Belpre, and Kroger of Belpre generously supported our meal today. The Washington County Sheriff's Department and Building Bridges to Careers also helped sponsor this event. A special thanks to Belpre High School's team (Mrs. Jamey Erb and Mr. Tyler Schaad) who put so much time and effort into this event. It was a great day and we can't wait to see how Fort Frye continues to grow in this program!
